Support for Clients with Trauma & Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Everyone’s experience of trauma, and the ways we cope with its impacts, will look different. I often remind clients that trauma responses are deeply protective. Your mind and body are doing their best to keep you safe using the tools they learned at the time. These responses can show up in many ways, such as hypervigilance, panic, dissociation, or numbing through substances, among others. While these reactions can feel confusing or distressing, they are understandable responses to abnormal and overwhelming events.
Our work begins by prioritizing safety, trust, and choice. You are never required to share more than you feel ready to, and it’s okay if you’re not able or willing to talk about what happened right away. Healing from trauma takes time, and we will move at a pace that feels aligned with where you are, with a strong focus on creating safety and stability in the present.
In my work with trauma and PTSD, I draw on Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Trauma Informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST). Together, we’ll focus on understanding your symptoms with compassion, strengthening emotional regulation, and building a greater sense of internal and external safety. When enough support and stability are in place, we may gently work toward processing and integrating traumatic memories so they feel less intrusive and overwhelming. This work is collaborative, consent based, and always guided by what feels safest for you.
