Counselling for Depression
Support for Clients Experiencing Depression
Depression exists on a spectrum. Some will experience more severe symptoms than others. Sometimes depression makes us feel paralyzed, which makes even the most basic self care tasks (like showering or brushing teeth our teeth) feel overwhelming and exhausting. For others, depression may be less visible on the outside. We might still be able to do basic self care, go to work, and show up for our social commitments, but inside we feel disconnected, isolated, and exhausted.
Know that wherever you’re at, and regardless of how bad things are (or, aren’t) you deserve help and support. If you are struggling, that is enough of a reason to reach out. It doesn’t matter if you’re drowning in 2 feet of water or 20, you’re still drowning.
How we navigate forward will be based on where you’re at right now, what symptoms you’re experiencing, and how depression impacting your life. We’ll gently explore the parts of you that feel depressed, hopeless, shut down, or self critical, and the roles they may be playing in trying to protect you. Early work may also include understanding possible triggers, strengthening emotional regulation and support, and developing plans to increase safety when needed. Throughout the process, we focus on meeting your experience with compassion and curiosity, working at a pace that feels manageable while supporting movement toward greater connection, relief, and self understanding.
